Facebook carousels are a creative and interactive way to communicate in a compact space, since the format allows up to 10 unique images or videos (called "cards") within a single post, each with its own headline, description, and URL.

This format is especially effective at driving interaction with your ad, pulling the prospect out of their role as a passive scrolling bystander. According to a 2015 study by Kinetic Social, carousel ads deliver 10 times better performance than standard ads.

With the Carousel format, the user has options, but don't forget to also leverage its versatility by telling a story through a series of images or videos ("cards").

  • Images should be in square format (1:1), with a maximum size of 30MB each,
  • Use the format to showcase different products from your store,
  • Headlines, descriptions, and calls to action should highlight the strengths of each of your products,
  • Even if your images are unique, try to create a thread or a journey across your cards.

How to create a Carousel ad:

  • Go to Facebook Ads Manager, then click "Create"
  • Select an ad objective (for the carousel format, the available objectives are: reach, brand awareness, traffic, app installs, lead generation, conversions, and catalog sales)
  • Select the carousel format

  • Choose the number of images to include in the carousel and upload your images/videos
  • Select each of your cards to add a headline, a description, and a call to action.

  • Image size: 1,080 x 1,080 pixels
  • Image/video ratio: 1:1 (square)
  • Text: 125 characters
  • Headline: 40 characters
  • Link description: 20 characters
  • Number of creatives: 2-10
  • Video file size: 4GB max
  • Video length: Up to 240 minutes
