How do Meta Advantage+ and Advantage campaigns work?
Advantage+ is a Meta product powered by its machine learning technology. It enables advertisers to create a fully automated campaign from end to end. It is, in fact, an evolution of Advantage campaigns.
The tools are similar, but the names have changed. Here is a quick summary of the changes Meta announced:
- Lookalike Expansion becomes Advantage Lookalike. It helps advertisers reach a broader audience than the one defined in their Lookalike audiences.
- Detailed Targeting Expansion becomes Advantage Detailed Targeting. This allows advertisers to find additional audiences based on their targeting preferences (such as interests).
- Automated App Ads becomes Advantage+ App Campaigns. This tool uses real-time data to adjust ads based on audience, placement, and creative.
- Automatic placements become Advantage+ placements. This automation decides where your ad appears across Meta (e.g., Facebook Feed, Instagram Stories, Reels, etc.) with the goal of delivering better results.
- Dynamic Experiences becomes Advantage+ Creative. This lets you create multiple ad variations using a single image or video.

What are the benefits of Meta Advantage+ campaigns?
The key benefit of Meta Advantage+ campaigns is the ability to automatically find the audiences and placements most likely to meet the advertiser's objective.
It is also a way to simplify campaign optimization. One of Meta's stated goals is to reduce the manual setup required for campaigns. According to Meta, up to 150 creative combinations can be tested at once.
Less manual configuration, yes, but this does not reduce the analytical work needed to study campaign performance and drive the strategic optimizations that follow.

How do you create an Advantage+ Shopping campaign?
Here is a quick guide to creating an Advantage+ Shopping campaign:
First, click "Create a campaign" and select the Sales objective.

You will then be asked to choose between a Manual Sales campaign or the Advantage+ Shopping Campaign. Naturally, you select the latter.

Then you choose:
- Audience location
- Budget and schedule

- The attribution setting
- The ads to import

Meta also simply asks you to import all your existing ads from the account. These will serve as the creatives for the campaign.

Finally, as with any standard campaign, you will be asked to write the ad copy: the messaging, headlines, calls to action, and the website URL. Copywriting remains a central element in any strategy, even in an automated campaign.
Once done, you can publish.
Pretty straightforward, but as you may have noticed, there is no ad set-level configuration and no creatives to import manually — Meta takes care of everything!
